Stump Grinding

When deciding whether or not to keep or grind the stump, I discuss the following with my clients.

It's unsightly and downright ugly: Let's face it, most people don't enjoy looking at a tree stump in the middle of their landscape.

It's a tripping hazard: Slip, trips and falls were an astonishing 8 million emergency room visits in 2023, making them a leading cause of unintentional injury. Don’t let your stump make you a statistic.

Stumps can resprout: Many tree species are “resprouting species” - Resprouting is a mechanism that allows plants to regrow from buds from the stump after removal’

It can attract insect pests: Many insects, such as termites and ants, and other pesky bugs are attracted to the moist rotting wood of a decomposing tree stump.

Fungal diseases may develop: Some beneficial  fungi can help break down the stump, however other, more harmful fungi can also grow and then spread to nearby trees.

The space can't be used: The stump will be there for a LONG time.  It takes many years for “nature to take its course”. In the right location, this is a cost effective option.
